Dr David Henri Beran

David Beran is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva. Since 2011 David has been based at the Geneva University Hospitals and University of Geneva, Faculty of Medicine, within the Division of Tropical and Humanitarian Medicine (DTHM). David is a Swiss national who grew up in Geneva. He holds a BSc in Management and worked for the pharmaceutical industry before obtaining his MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2002. After his MSc he worked at University College London (UCL) (2002-2011) as a Senior Research Fellow on projects in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) with regards to access to insulin and diabetes care. In parallel he obtained his PhD at UCL with a focus on Type 1 diabetes. Within the DTHM, David: leads various research projects in LMICs focused on access to insulin and health system responses to diabetes and chronic diseases; coordinates implementation projects funded by the Swiss government in Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine; collaborates with different humanitarian actors on the issue of Noncommunicable diseases and humanitarian emergencies; and teaches and supervises students at the University of Geneva. He is also a Member of the Faculty Diabetes Centre at the Faculty of Medicine. Beyond access to insulin and health systems and how they can improve the delivery of diabetes care, David has a particular interest on the individual with diabetes and how their views and needs can be integrated into health system responses.
